| so it's been a long time since i've posted an entry. i have a few that were partially written and, for whatever reason, never finished. at this point, they'd be nothing more than incomplete thoughts, so they'll likely remain unpublished gems of genius.
i felt inspired and flattered by a gentleman who goes by, well, no name. he mentioned/complained that it's been a while, so i'm obliging him by updating this sucker. as fun as it was having the ito post up at the top for so long...
so what's been going on in my poker life? well, i took a long break after some tough beats all-in preflop with AA for a whole lot of cash. i started playing cash games again on the regular back in late september 2006. i found a new stomping ground in hustler casino in gardena, ca. better blind levels relative to buy-in limits, nice room, and a game that seems very beatable. blinds $2/$5 with a spread buy-in of $100-$300. much better than the $200 buy-in $3/$5 games at most la card rooms.
funny story is that i showed up at hustler casino for the first time looking to play in their wednesday night tourney. while waiting, i sat down at one of their $300 games. 3rd hand i'm dealt, i end up getting table share of jackpot! AQ and QQ got to the river on an A A 9 3 A board. jackpots start at $15k for that game at hustler, so table share was over $900! not a bad welcome...
so you'll find me there most mondays through wednesdays with an occasional weekend day in there. the last couple of weeks i've been letting "work" get in the way of my time at the tables, but that should ease up in a couple weeks.
so look out for more poker musings to appear here in the near future. i've also kept a fresh spreadsheet since getting back on the horse. i'm considering posting session results on here, negreanu style. would that even be interesting to any of you?

| ito n. [i(mplied) t(ilt) o(dds)] the expected payoffs from a player's poor play after he goes on tilt.
playing in a short handed home game ($0.25/$0.50 nlhe) on sunday, a few notable hands came up. what makes them notable? you'll see...
in the first hand, 5 handed, i straddle and everyone calls. i check my option with 96o.
flop: J 8 5 [$5]
checked around. as the turn is dealt, sb says "you guys are making a big mistake letting me see a free card".
turn: 9 [$5]
sb checks. bb bets $1. i call. sb calls.
river: 2 [$8]
sb checks. bb bets $2. i fold. sb check-raises to $8. bb calls.
final pot: $24
sb shows QTs for the nut straight and says "i told you not to check the flop". bb, steamed, mucks.
next hand, i straddle again and get 3 callers. i check with QTo.
flop: A K 6 [$4]
sb checks. bb bets $3. i call. button folds. sb folds.
turn: K [$10]
bb bets $5. i raise to $12. planning to bluff the river if i miss. either way he's going to get shown my hand. my 8% gutshot goes way up in value when you factor in ito. bb calls.
river: J [$34]
bb checks. i bet $10. bb calls.
final pot: $54
i say "straight". bb says "are you f%cking serious?" and show QTo for the nut straight. bb mucks, unhappy. some might say, tilted. i snicker.
next hand, the co limps. button calls. sb raises to $2.50. i fold from the bb. co and button call.
flop: Q J T [$8]
sb bets $6. co calls. button folds.
turn: blank [$20]
sb pushes all-in for about $12 more. co calls. sb says "what do you have?". co replies "i have a ten."
river: blank [$44]
players are all-in.
final pot: $44
sb slams down AJo. co slowly turns over his cards to expose a T... then a Q for two pair. sb ever so calmly says "nice job slow rolling me there on the end"... and by calmly, i mean, super pissed off.
finally, 4 handed, utg raises to $2. i call and both blinds call.
flop: K J 5 [$8]
sb pushes all in for about $17. i fold. sb calls. bb puts sb all in for $3 more. sb calls.
turn: 6 [$59] [$6]
players are all-in.
river: 2 [$59] [$6]
players are all-in.
final pot: $59 and $6 sidepot
sb shows ATo for a missed gutshot. bb shows JT. utg mucks QT. bb takes down the pot with second pair.
if you were following the positions on the table, the non-winner in all three hands was the same player. he lost three big pots to QT and lost a big pot playing QT. he obviously sucks. did i mention that he might have been tilting through most of these hands? ito pwns you.
so everyone at the table was playing QT against this player with increased ito value. brilliant and i have a feeling that player didn't ever realize he lost to QT thrice for big pots, lost a big pot with QT, and even got circled at the table. who is he? well, i don't want to name names, but he might have done well in vegas two weekends ago and won 4spt last thursday.
| | |
| on my way to vegas for a thursday to monday poker adventure. i'll be out there with jamie, april, and kelvin. many regrets to 4spt for missing a game. i'll be busy donking off my chips to complete strangers instead. don't think i'll be able to blog from out there, so look for bragging and whining on monday. wish me the same phony good luck everyone at a poker table wishes each other!
also, still under construction, this blog will soon have a new home at http://www.62off.com. keep your eyes peeled!
